Basketball Card Collecting 2nd Year Cards

Are Player’s 2nd Year Basketball Cards Worth Buying?

This is my second recent post about collecting 2nd year basketball cards.

The question is: Is it worth it to buy 2nd year basketball cards?

Well, my answer would be YES! But only parallels. I won’t go over this too much because I had talked about this in my other post here.

Obviously, when it comes to basketball card collecting, the rookies are the way to go. But an NBA player’s 2nd year cards are also highly sought after by collectors.

This post is all about showing you what 2nd year cards I have picked up lately. You can see them in my Youtube video above.

Do You Collect 2nd Year Basketball Cards? I Do And Here Is What I Got!

Do You Collect 2nd Year Basketball Cards?

collecting 2nd year basketball cards

Hello fellow basketball trading card collectors.

I have a sports cards addiction right now. I am addicted to buying 2nd year basketball cards off eBay.

Now don’t get me wrong. I do have some real nice rookie cards as well. For example, I have a Jayson Tatum 2017-18 Panini Prizm Silver rookie card as well as a Prizm Green and a couple Red White and Blue  from that 2017 Prizm set.

Here they are on my Youtube channel below.

Obviously rookie cards are the best to collect, but let’s get back to talking about 2nd year basketball cards for the purpose of this post.

Back in the spring and summer of 2020, I began to buy a ton of 2nd year basketball cards. BUT! I only bought parallels of these players 2nd year, NO BASE CARD or “BASS” cards!

Only Silvers, Greens, Orange Ice, etc.

I say “BASS ” cards because that is a running joke over on the Blowout Cards forum. A member there posted BASS instead of BASE in the title of one of their threads. So it stuck!! LOL!!

The ONLY base 2nd year basketball cards I bought were the Luka Doncic 2019-20 Panini Prizm. I purchased a total of 19 of them in the Summer.

I paid $6 to $11. You can see the screenshots below.

I also purchased 4 Luka Doncic 2019-20 Donruss Optic Holo Silvers. I believe this card is way undervalued and could see a real nice spike in the next few years.

You can take a quick view of this card by clicking here.

Like most collectors, I got in late on the Luka Doncic rookie card explosion. So I am settling for his cheaper 2nd year parallels.

luka-doncici-2019-20-panini-prizm-2nd-year

luka-doncici-2nd-year-cards

The main 2nd year basketball cards I was focusing on purchasing last Spring and Summer were Luka,  Lauri Markkanen, John Collins, Marvin Bagley and Donovan Mitchell.

As mentioned earlier in this post, all the 2nd year cards I bought above were parallels, not BASE!

In the coming weeks I will shoot and download a video to my Youtube channel showing all of my 2nd year cards I have got.

So please come back and check this post.

What Am I Buying Now?

The 2nd year card that I am focusing on right now is the Jaren Jackson, Jr 2019-20 Panini Prizm Silver. I just started honing in on this card in the past few weeks.

As of this post, I have 4 Silvers, 1 Green and 1 Orange Ice

One of the Jaren Jackson, Jr 2nd year Prizm Silver that I bought is graded PSA GEM MINT 10.

You can see a video I shot of this beautiful GEM card below.

So, WHY am I buying these ? Well, I believe Jackson, Jr will be a solid NBA player and he is coming back to the Memphis Grizzlies very soon after being out with an injury.

I also believe that Jackson and his teammate Ja Morant will be a solid duo.

In closing I will just say that rookie cards are always the way to go. But if you are on a tight budget you can turn to the player’s 2nd year cards.

Just be sure you focus your buying on Parallels, not base. The parallel basketball cards will hold more value down the road.

If you got this far, thanks for reading. Leave a comment below and let us know what sports cards you have purchased recently.

Ripped Off At Target- Found Prestige Junk Cards in Cello Packs Of Donruss Optic Basketball

Target Sports Card Scam
Share Button

I wanted to share this experience with other sports card collectors so you can be on the look out for the old “Switch and Bait” tactic that is used at Target.

Back in September 2018, I went to my local Target to buy some 2017-18 Donruss Optic Basketball Cello rack packs. When I got back home and started opening up the packs, I was floored and pissed off to see that I had been a victim of the “Switch and Bait” scam.

Inside these packs should have been 17-18 Optic basketball cards but instead there were junk Prestige basketball as well as junk common football cards.

I got back in my truck and drove back to Target. They told me that they do not offer refunds on their sports cards. Well, I started to argue with them and told them that I spent over $60 on these packs and I did not get what I paid for.

I still had some of the packs that I did not open at home because I knew they too would probably be junk commons. And my hunch was right!!

I grabbed one the packs and opened it up right in front of the Target manager. Inside this pack of what should have been 2017-18 DONRUSS OPTIC BASKETBALL were 4 1990 Topps Baseball cards. (If one had been a Frank Thomas NO NAME I would have excepted that). But there wasn’t. LOL!

Anyways, after the lady saw me open this pack, she finally decided to give me a refund. I know this “Switch and Bait” scam has probably been going on for a while but this was the first, and hopefully last, time this has happened to me.

Who is doing this? A crooked Target vendor? A customer who buys these packs at Target then goes home and takes out the good cards and reseals them with junk wax product?

And oh yeah, I made a video of this horrible experience. I was simply making a pack break video of Optic basketball when all of this happened. You can see the video below.

Will The LeBron James Silver Prizm Craze Continue?

LeBron James 2017-18 Panini Prizm Silver
Share Button

Over the past few weeks, LeBron James Prizm basketball silver cards have shot up in price.

Especially the early Prizm from 2012 to 2015. Some of these early Silvers are selling in the hundreds of dollars and graded ones have gone into the thousands of dollars. Lately, even his 2017 Silver has heated up to about $25. And it seems to be spreading to Donruss Optic as well.

I only have 2 of these as you can see in the picture. One is a LeBron James 2017-18 Panini Prizm Silver and the other one is the 2016-17 Optic Silver.

LeBron James 2016-17 Optic Silver has heated up in the past week as well as there are a few $20 sells on eBay.

I actually had this card for sale for $5 here on my website. It set there for months and nobody bought it. Thank god!! Some times you get lucky and sometimes you don’t.

Like the time about 4 years ago I sold a 2009-10 Bowman ‘48 Stephen Curry rookie card here on my website for $15. Yeah, I lost out on that one.

Will the LeBron James Silver craze trend continue? It is amazing.

  • Sometimes when you place an order with us through PayPal, the order automatically goes to a “Cancelled Order” state.
  • Please be assured that the order is NOT cancelled and your order WILL go through.
  • For some odd reason this is a bug that comes from PayPal to our WordPress Storefront.
  • I have tried to research this issue online but cannot find a solution.

But please remember, the bottom line is that if you place an order with us using PayPal, your order WILL be processed and completed.

Finally Found Some 2017-18 Prizm Basketball At My Local Target Store

Finally Found Some 2017-18 Prizm Basketball

2017-18 Prizm basketball cards were released in mid December of 2017.

Since the day it was released, I have been to my local Walmart and Target stores so much that the employees probably think I was hired.

I thought searching for this product would not be hard to find because I am in a larger area south of Seattle and we have 2 Walmarts and 2 Targets in our town alone. Not The Case!

I had searched and searched with no luck. I don’t know if there are other collectors that have an inside track on when these stores restock or not, but every time I would go look there were no Prizm at all.

But over New Year’s Eve weekend I finally hit the jackpot at the local Target. I entered the store not expecting anything as usual.

As my eyes scanned all the racing card blasters and other product I have no interest in…I SPOTTED THEM!!!

Hanging on the racks were 14 packs of 2017-18 Prizm Basketball retail cello packs!! I think I may have pulled an arm muscle from reaching up and grabbing these off the racks so fast.

The funny part about this is that I have not even opened the packs yet. I think I will just keep them sealed and hang onto them for a while. These same packs sell for between $15-$20 on eBay. It was nice getting them at the SRP of $10 a pack.

The reason I will not open these? I believe over time these could be a real sought after unopened product because this 2017 NBA Draft class appears to be loaded with talent.

The list of rookie players from this draft that are playing well is impressive.

Players like Dennis Smith, Jr, Kyle Kuzma, Donovan Mitchell, Lonzo Ball, Lauri Markkanen, Jordan Bell, Justin Jackson, Josh Hart, Jayson Tatum, John Collins, Jonathan Issac, Josh Jackson, Frank Ntilikina, Malik Monk, OG Anunoby, and DeAaron Fox (He is battling an injury right now).

And the #1 Draft pick, Markelle Fultz, hasn’t even played yet in 2017-18 because of an injury. So yeah, it is safe to say that this Draft class is loaded with potential.

Only time will tell where the 2017 NBA Draft class stacks up to other drafts, but right now it is on the right path for sure.

Key Players To Watch In The 2017-18 NBA Season

lonzo-ball-2017-18-prizm-rookie-card

The 2017-18 NBA season starts in just 3 days!

There is so much excitement this year because of all the raw, young talent that has entered the league following the most anticipated 2017 NBA Draft back in June.

In this little article, I will list some of these young potentials stars that you should watch as the season unfolds.

We all know that Markelle Fultz was the #1 pick of the Philadelphia 76ers and Lonzo Ball was the #2 pick of the Los Angeles Lakers.

But let’s talk a little bit about the other young players that were taken in the 2017 Draft as well.

The #3 pick went to the Boston Celtics and they picked Jayson Tatum out of Duke. Keep an eye on this young stud. He could even surpass Ball and Fultz in the years to come.

Below are other players to keep your eyes on during the 2017-18 NBA season.

De’Aaron Fox. The Sacramento Kings had the #5 pick and they took Fox out of Kentucky. It will be fun watching De’Aaron Fox and Lonzo Ball match up against each other for years to come as both play in the same division.

Below is the list of potential NBA star players that I will be watching closely in the 2017-18 NBA season.

Josh Jackson-Phoenix Suns.

Dennis Smith, Jr.-Dallas Mavericks.

Kyle Kuzma-Los Angeles Lakers. This kid has already impressed in the preseason for the Lakers.

Malik Monk-Charlotte Hornets.

Justin Jackson-Sacramento Kings.

Frank Mason-Sacramento Kings.

Zach Collins-Portland Trail Blazers.

Jonathan Isaac-Orlando Magic.

Which players will you be watching with an eagle eye in 17-18? Add them in the comments below if you’d like to.

As a footnote, I would also like to add a few other players that are entering their 2nd or third year in the league that I also will be watching like a hawk this season. You can see them below.

ben-simmons-2016-17-donruss-optic-orange-prizm-rookie-card

Ben Simmons-Philadelphia 76ers. Okay, this one is pretty obvious because we all want to know just how good Ben Simmons will be.

The #1 pick of the 2016 NBA Draft was robbed of his rookie season because of an injury. Hopefully he can stay healthy all season and showcase his talent. Ben Simmons has been really good in the preseason as he scored 19 points the other night.

Brandon Ingram-Los Angeles Lakers. Ingram is entering his second NBA season in 2017-18 and Lakers’ fans are expecting a major improvement from this young guy.

And it just may happen for Ingram because he now has a future NBA star in Lonzo Ball to set him up at the rim for some easy baskets.

Joel Embiid-Philadelphia 76ers. Will this be the year that Joel Embiid can finally stay healthy and play a full season? Sixers fans sure hope so.

Jaylen Brown-Boston Celtics. Brown is another possible rising star for the Celtics as he enters his second year.

Thon Maker-Milwaukee Bucks.

Jamal Murray-Denver Nuggets.

Tyler Ulis-Phoenix Suns.

Buddy Hield-Sacramento Kings. Buddy Hield came over to Sacramento as part of the DeMarcus Cousins trade to the New Orleans Pelicans. Hield shown flashes of being a solid NBA player in 16-17.

Brice Johnson-Los Angeles Clippers.

Skal Labissière-Sacramento Kings.

Dejounte Murray-San Antonio Spurs.

Kris Dunn-Chicago Bulls.

It will be fun to look back at this post in a few years to see which players have gone on to be stars as well as players that have faded out.

One thing for sure, there is a lot of solid, young talent in the NBA as we enter the 2017-18 season and that’s a good thing!

Boston Celtics Get The #1 Pick Of The 2017 NBA Draft. Are You Kidding Me?

Lonzo Ball To The Celtics or Lakers
Share Button

2017 NBA Draft Lottery Results

I just watched the 2017 NBA Lottery Draft on ESPN.

The Boston Celtics got the #1 Pick!

I was shocked because I did not know the Boston Celtics were even in the Lottery. I mean, come on!

The Celtics are getting ready to start playing in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers. How could they be in the Lottery?

Well, I now know that they got the pick in a trade from Brooklyn. Poor Brooklyn.LOL!

Who will the Celtics take with the #1 pick? Will it be UCLA’s Lonzo Ball and his loud-mouth dad Or will it be Markelle Fultz from the University of Washington?

It is an interesting dilemna for the Celtics because their superstar point guard Isaiah Thomas also went to college at the University of Washington. Maybe he will tell Danny Ainge to go get Fultz.

What would you do if you were the Celtics? Lonzo Ball looks like he will be great at the next level but MAN, his dad is such a headache.

What Lonzo needs to do is tell his dad to shut up and let him start his NBA career. I have never seen a parent mooch of his kid more than Lavar Ball.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers get the #2 pick and the Philadelphia 76ers get the #3 pick. The Sacramento Kings get the #5 and the #10 picks, thanks to the DeMarcus Cousins trade earlier this year.
