Basketball Card Collecting 2nd Year Cards

Are Player’s 2nd Year Basketball Cards Worth Buying?

This is my second recent post about collecting 2nd year basketball cards.

The question is: Is it worth it to buy 2nd year basketball cards?

Well, my answer would be YES! But only parallels. I won’t go over this too much because I had talked about this in my other post here.

Obviously, when it comes to basketball card collecting, the rookies are the way to go. But an NBA player’s 2nd year cards are also highly sought after by collectors.

This post is all about showing you what 2nd year cards I have picked up lately. You can see them in my Youtube video above.

Do You Collect 2nd Year Basketball Cards?

collecting 2nd year basketball cards

Hello fellow basketball trading card collectors.

I have a sports cards addiction right now. I am addicted to buying 2nd year basketball cards off eBay.

Now don’t get me wrong. I do have some real nice rookie cards as well. For example, I have a Jayson Tatum 2017-18 Panini Prizm Silver rookie card as well as a Prizm Green and a couple Red White and Blue  from that 2017 Prizm set.

Here they are on my Youtube channel below.

Obviously rookie cards are the best to collect, but let’s get back to talking about 2nd year basketball cards for the purpose of this post.

Back in the spring and summer of 2020, I began to buy a ton of 2nd year basketball cards. BUT! I only bought parallels of these players 2nd year, NO BASE CARD or “BASS” cards!

Only Silvers, Greens, Orange Ice, etc.

I say “BASS ” cards because that is a running joke over on the Blowout Cards forum. A member there posted BASS instead of BASE in the title of one of their threads. So it stuck!! LOL!!

The ONLY base 2nd year basketball cards I bought were the Luka Doncic 2019-20 Panini Prizm. I purchased a total of 19 of them in the Summer.

I paid $6 to $11. You can see the screenshots below.

I also purchased 4 Luka Doncic 2019-20 Donruss Optic Holo Silvers. I believe this card is way undervalued and could see a real nice spike in the next few years.

You can take a quick view of this card by clicking here.

Like most collectors, I got in late on the Luka Doncic rookie card explosion. So I am settling for his cheaper 2nd year parallels.

The main 2nd year basketball cards I was focusing on purchasing last Spring and Summer were Luka,  Lauri Markkanen, John Collins, Marvin Bagley and Donovan Mitchell.

As mentioned earlier in this post, all the 2nd year cards I bought above were parallels, not BASE!

In the coming weeks I will shoot and download a video to my Youtube channel showing all of my 2nd year cards I have got.

So please come back and check this post.

What Am I Buying Now?

The 2nd year card that I am focusing on right now is the Jaren Jackson, Jr 2019-20 Panini Prizm Silver. I just started honing in on this card in the past few weeks.

As of this post, I have 4 Silvers, 1 Green and 1 Orange Ice

One of the Jaren Jackson, Jr 2nd year Prizm Silver that I bought is graded PSA GEM MINT 10.

You can see a video I shot of this beautiful GEM card below.

So, WHY am I buying these ? Well, I believe Jackson, Jr will be a solid NBA player and he is coming back to the Memphis Grizzlies very soon after being out with an injury.

I also believe that Jackson and his teammate Ja Morant will be a solid duo.

In closing I will just say that rookie cards are always the way to go. But if you are on a tight budget you can turn to the player’s 2nd year cards.

Just be sure you focus your buying on Parallels, not base. The parallel basketball cards will hold more value down the road.

If you got this far, thanks for reading. Leave a comment below and let us know what sports cards you have purchased recently.

Most Expensive Stephen Curry Rookie Cards From 2009-10.

2009-10 national treasures gold stephen curry rookie card auto

I was surfing around eBay looking at what Stephen Curry 2009-10 rookie cards have sold for in the recent past. I wanted to see the highest prices that basketball card collectors paid for the Golden State Warriors’ superstar.

I clicked on the “Completed Listings” button and this first card caught my eye.

It is the Stephen Curry 2009-10 National Treasures Gold Rookie Autograph card numbered to only 25 made. It is also graded a BGS 9 with the autograph a grade of 10.

So, what did this premium Curry rookie card end up selling for, you ask? It sold for a cool $15,000!!

I took a screenshot of the completed eBay auction. You can see it below.

After searching more, I noticed this other Curry rookie card that sold for a hefty price on eBay.

This one is the Stephen Curry 2009-10 National Treasures Autograph Rookie Patch. This card has a grade of BGS 9  and the autograph is a perfect 10.

This sweet rookie card sold for a cool $5,955.00.

See screenshot of the auction below.

Stephen Curry 2009-10 Topps Chrome Refractor Rookie BGS 9.5 Card Numbered To 500.

The next card that I noticed was this one. It is a 2009-10 Topps Chrome Refractor Stephen Curry rookie card numbered to 500.

It is also graded a BGS 9.5.

Topps Chrome is always a winner with collectors. However, this card is kind of dull in my opinion. The photo on the front features a baby faced Steph Curry.

Too bad that Chrome could not have captured an action shot of Curry instead of basically a mugshot. Still a very nice card though.

By the looks of what it sold for, collectors still love this card though. It sold for a solid $875.75.

I actually bought a hobby box of this product back in 2009. But my luck with busting packs has not been good. I did not get this sweet, awesome card in any of those packs.

But there was a lucky collector who did. And it may have been this eBay seller who recently sold this Stephen Curry 2009-10 Playoff Contenders ROOKIE TICKET On Card Autograph rookie card for $429.99.

I love the photo on this Curry rookie card as it shows the Warriors’ super player IN ACTION!
